The Role 

We are seeking a Tech Lead to take overall responsibility for Scantrol’s software architecture, technology direction, and cybersecurity across embedded and connected platforms. This is a hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building robust control systems while also leading and mentoring a skilled development team. The Tech Lead will ensure seamless integration between software, hardware, and cloud, shaping Scantrol’s next generation of control solutions.

Key Responsibilities 

Embedded & Real-Time Software Development 

  • Design, implement, and test software for vessel and offshore control systems. 

  • Develop real-time control algorithms emphasizing reliability, safety, and determinism. 

  • Maintain high usability and backward compatibility across product generations.

Hardware Integration 

  • Collaborate with electronics partners to ensure optimal hardware–software integration. 

  • Act as the technical buyer and interface for outsourced electronics development.

GUI & Cloud Integration 

  • Contribute to web-based configuration, monitoring, and diagnostic tools. 

  • Develop interfaces between embedded systems and PC or cloud-based HMIs. 

  • Support integration between vessel controllers and remote cloud monitoring services.

Technical Leadership 

  • Lead and mentor a team of developers, fostering collaboration and best practices. 

  • Own and evolve Scantrol’s software architecture, ensuring robustness and scalability. 

  • Implement cybersecurity standards for connected industrial control systems. 

  • Advise management on long-term technology strategies and risks.

Key Technologies

  • Proficiency in C/C++; experience with RTOS and Linux. 

  • Familiarity with JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS is an advantage. 

  • Knowledge of Git, Agile, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, ProfiNet, CANOpen). 

  • Understanding of sensors and instrumentation (encoders, proximity sensors, etc.). 

  • Experience with signal processing and control systems. 

  • Familiarity with cloud or IoT architectures is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Electronics, Physics, or a related field 

  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development
